first of all, thank you so much for your emails and comments regarding the post below. it really is amazing to have such kind words coming from all over the world. we are trying to get back to normal life now after the turbulence of last week and are just very grateful for the time we spent with my grandmother and our dear friend roslyn.

onto brighter topics, i have re-opened my shop. i was going to wait until i had some new things to show but i've been getting some requests for designs from last year so i've decided to list them (plus a few favourites) for a short time. these pieces will all be made to order and may take two to three weeks. i apologise that it's a bit of a wait but i'm juggling a few different things and also nutting out how to manage my workload as last year it started to have effects on my health and well being.

below are some lookbook images that i don't think i've shown before, created by the wonderful more & co of course. it was very hard to choose which ones i loved the most.

it's been a sad week with two loved ones passing away almost on the very same day. primo our orange cat is such a caring personality, whenever i am not myself he senses it and sits with me. these images show scenes that i see frequently and never fail to make me feel happy.

i recently sent some more cabin sweaters to anaise so you will find the full range of sizes there again. renee does such a lovely job of styling, i didn't really need to take the photos below, but since i get an email now and then requesting advice on how to wear my pieces, i thought i'd post these. as it turns out, i'm not very good at showing/telling how to wear pieces exactly and i ended up with a bunch of rather abstract shots, but here are some of the better ones that might be of some interest especially for colour/texture inspiration.

hello, it's been awhile! here are a few snaps from my recent trip to singapore. these images sum up many of my visits there, however, this trip was a little different as we spent a lot of time at the hospital with my grandmother who is not so well. it was a little bit stressful, but we were very grateful to have this time to spend with her.

in the week we have been back at home i've been trying to look after myself. i was mentally and physically burnt out so have been taking lots of bike rides, dips in the sea, having friends over for lunch and dinner, visiting my favourite op-shops, re-potting plants and spending time away from the computer. i've also been thinking about my work (probably a little too much) and where i want to take it this year. i have a desire to grow and expand my label but i also want to make each step a conscious one that will interest and nourish me. i haven't figured out exactly what primoeza will look like this year, but i feel like it will be a good one.

the photoshoot i helped olga with has just been released. these images were taken in my home/studio and garden. while i love taking photos, i equally love seeing things through other people's eyes, especially someone like olga, who has such a quiet, beautiful, unobtrusive way of seeing and whose images just seem to glow. olga kindly credited me with styling but i feel like i just let her have free rein with my wardrobe and fussed around a bit while she worked! you can see images on olga's blog, website and the official project site.

i feel like all i do at the moment is knit and take photographs. i'm possibly very boring, but working quietly allows for space in my head, which is increasingly being filled with ideas for new projects.

the last image was inspired by the roses page in latest 3191 quarterly (aside- unfortunately the focal length of my camera is longer than my arm so the flowers are a little blurry). i have a nice little collection of self published books now, and this has to be one of my favourites. i also wish i could be in portland for the opening of mav's other collaborative project.

get along to so:me space last night. nicely done. a great venue for (up and coming) designers, and i met the lovely belinda.

i've just delivered egyptian cotton and cashmere scarves in summery colours to milly sleeping, including the landscape wrap in a special colourway (above).

craft victoria has landscape wraps in the two colourways and a cloudy day cardigan (below).

and i can now say that these sweaters will be arriving at anaise very shortly.

i am an AU/UK 8-10, US 4-6 and wearing the size large here. the medium is probably a better size for me and i could also wear the small for a slightly more fitted look.

i've been waiting for green to make a comeback. so many beautiful shades and lately i've had my eye on the dark, forest-y kind. i found this pot in the op shop.

i've run out of wooden buttons so cardigans will go out with vintage, french horn buttons (as in image). equally as nice in my opinion, maybe even more so.

international shipping is back up to $29 as all parcels will go out registered post as we head into the busy season.

it's been awhile between outfit posts. this is officially my new uniform: the enkidu dress from rennes. i haven't taken this off since i received it. it's so meticulously made and the fabric is wonderful. i love it julia! and my new mociun + krantz necklace, which goes with pretty much everything in my wardrobe.

this is what i do while taking little breaks between knitting, wear-test my samples (details for this particular sweater coming soon), have a cup of tea in the sunshine (very little sunshine today) and sit with the plants. i found the big succulent abandoned on the side of the road the other day and then i also found the pot so i put them together. i hope it likes its new home.

very happy to announce that there are a few primoeza pieces now available at anaise. renee has such impeccable style, it's amazing to be represented here. unfortunately i didn't have the dress ready for the photoshoot, but these are some pictures i took a little later on.

i'm still getting interest in the older pieces i made and each pattern takes such a lot of work, so i'm thinking about ways i can continue on with them and also push myself forward as a designer, this button pocket dress being an example.

enjoying the sunshine today. it's been so cold and rainy since we've been back, i feel like we're the ones that are heading into autumn. the tree outside my window, however, was bare when we left for overseas and now it's full of leaves.

i'm on the home stretch of sampling. it feels like a million things are happening at once and i'm trying not to feel too overwhelmed. trying to work through one thing at a time, have a proper lunch and tend to my blog. i've started writing up the final drafts of my patterns, which you can see very neatly pinned up. it's a relief after living with piles of scrappy notes lying all over the place.

here are my busy-body cats checking out the parcel i posted off this morning- i always feel like i'm going to have a nervous breakdown when i send off weeks and weeks of work. these are for a new project that has been talked about for the last few months and only really got confirmed in the last couple of days. i don't want to reveal anything yet. all i can say is that if this comes off, it will be the most amazing project for primoeza in what's been a pretty fantastic year. hopefully you will see the results late september.

seven things about dressing

funny how things turn out - when i started this blog i thought it would be all about clothes and fashion, but as it turns out, i've realised that i prefer to talk about cats and food and photography. but shipbuilding has very kindly tagged me with 'seven things about dressing' so this is the perfect excuse to get all my clothes out and do a gratuitous clothing post. the reason partly for not much posting about fashion is maybe because i've well and truly entered that oft quoted period of knowing what suits me and buying quality over quantity. this means less experimentation + less clothes buying = boring posts! but i still have a huge love for clothing and am on the continual lookout for pieces that will make my heart do cartwheels. so...

1. coats - big and boxy. they might make me look like a bag lady but i don't care.

2. hats - i'm slowly building up my collection.

3. big on checks (and stripes)

4. and pattern. i'm still disappointed that i wasn't a very good screen printer.

5. knitwear - nowadays it's mostly the pieces that didn't make the cut.

6. bags - i have a heap that i've made myself (like the one in the middle) but i also have a rennes tote and a balenciaga.

7. shoes - flats, flats and more flats. maybe some heels when i'm not feeling lazy.

state of design - the rest of the days at d:m:t

i was very optimistic naming the previous post 'day 1', as if i was going to continue up with chapters 2, 3 and 4 - the past few days were craziness! so many visitors came through our studios and really engaged with us and our work. i intended to get around and take some shots of other stands, but in the end it was actually great just to meet a lot of people that i knew of but never met in person including lara and tegan, yumi, george and of course, the other open studio participants. lucy over at the design files has a pretty comprehensive wrap up of the event (including a photo of me with a goofy smile) that you can see here. thanks lucy!

anita and kim from craft victoria were lovely as always and milly flemming, who handled most of the organisation is nothing short of super-amazing. i'm not exaggerating. nicholas was a great studio partner, very gentlemanly and extremely generous in introducing me to lots of new people.

it seemed like everyone at the event was shopping up a storm - i was so clueless- i didn't even really bring in any stock to sell. but i did manage to pick up a few little things -

a macrame plant hanger from stampel (and in the background is a framed card by sandra eterovic, a blog buddy who i met).

and, and, and a gorgeous silver and 10 carat gold ring by milly flemming herself. i love gold and silver used together and i'm so excited to have another beautiful delicate ring that i can wear all the time.

so this is our space! we've made ourselves at home despite it being freezing cold. the opening night was fun - hundreds of people and lots of wine, and today, a steady stream of visitors passing through. it's fantastic to have nicholas jones working on his beautiful pieces opposite me, and the last image shows our view if we choose to look up. in the next day or two i'll try and get some shots of other people's work.

from just the other day, mostly in the garden and in the city where i discovered comeback kid stocks st james tops so i bought this one. i also wanted to try this dress on just for fun but the boy couldn't get it off the mannequin (and neither could i) so i didn't bother.

i've stayed off my knitting arm since last thursday, which feels like the longest time, but i've busied myself with lots of other little things that needed doing and it feels nice to go at a more normal pace rather than the breakneck speed of the past few months. i started preparing a few things for open studio- i made a new ironing board cover today because i couldn't find one that wasn't covered with garish 80's prints or some other luminous colour.

looking back over the negatives i tried to get this particular image over three different shoots. even though tammy was happy to have her photo taken, i had to work really hard to get her to look relaxed and in a postion she was comfortable in. also being a complete tomboy, her shoes were often clumpy and her hair really messy, which i know in theory could make the portrait interesting, but they just looked distracting. i finally got this image that i thought represented her personality really nicely, and in the end out of all the portraits i did i think it's my favourite one.

this is going to be a week of doing all the things that i have been meaning to but can never make the time. my body's been under a lot of strain the last few months with all the knitting and i've finally found someone who seems to be able to help me address the pain i've been experiencing. apparently my hips and pelvis have been out of alignment for years (probably brought on by a lot of horse riding when i was younger), causing my whole body to be out of whack and they were basically pulled back into place this morning. i have to rest this week, which is going to be pretty hard because i have a lot on my plate right now, but i'd rather play it safe than regret it later.

so one of the things i've been wanting to do is scan some of my old negatives. they've been stored in a folder for years and are getting very squashed and stuck together. some of them must be at least 15 years old, judging by the photos above of alexander, who at 23 was older than me and i thought was so grown up and wise (ha!). these were the days when i shot black and white film and processed the negatives and images myself. needless to say, a lot of them didn't work out but i thought i'd share some of my favourites over the next few days.

awhile ago i mentioned a little contribution i made to the loved and lost society. as a lovely evolving project, the next phase is now underway with installations in place at milly sleeping and since grey. there are specially made 'collection' boxes for people to drop lost objects into, and each box comes paired with a small artwork. for those of you who can't make it in, this was my contribution - a pair of customised gloves - made especially for bowerbirds who love to collect things on their travels.

i believe at the moment you will also be able to view one of gracia and louise's artworks as well. if you haven't seen their work before, you'll be in for a treat.

secondly, this year's state of design program has been released and i am very, very happy to be included in an open studio exhibition running this year. for four days, a few of us will set up studio and work in the exhibition buildings. there's such a great line up of makers/designers - of note is nicholas jones whose work i have admired for years and i am incredibly flattered and somewhat amazed to be included. the design: made: trade event will be running in the same building so it's going to be crazy (if you are interested, the design files usually has very good coverage of what's going on). it's 'trade only' the first two days (but look into this, all you need to do is register your place of work) and then it's open house on the weekend. it's certainly going to be an amazing experience and i hope melbournites will come down and say hello.

weekend project: dress

my take on the no.6 dress. i cobbled together three different patterns to arrive at this and made up a few things as i went along, like the pleat in the neckline and button up sleeves. it's ok, i think i will wear it. and monday morning makes soft focus images a necessity.

happy to report i am back on track- i made good headway into two new samples, which makes me feel infinitely better. i bought the new apartamento, which only recently came into the shop. each new edition cements it further as my favourite magazine. i picked up a very cute (and free) publication from incu. although it is a fashion store you have to love that they've put the focus on food in their pages. and also, everytime i visit the men's store the staff are so incredibly friendly. i hope they have nice people in their new women's store too. a lovely postcard to stick up on my wall from kiehl's, some new black and white film and a gratuitous inclusion of my contax t2. oh, and some check fabric from the tessuti sale. i'm tempted to make a dress inspired by this for myself.

a while ago i planted a lot of cuttings into boring plastic pots until the roots took. recently i transferred the more successful ones into proper pots. i was amazed that as soon as i did this they started to shoot and put out flowers even more. it reminded me that when things are given love and attention they bloom (no pun intended).

also, have a look at julia's new site. she's done an incredible job and everything looks so appealing. if she she had the enkidu dress in my size i'd snap it up.

totally in love with sibling's latest collection. i didn't connect with their earlier work even though it was very interesting, but these pieces seem to combine their somewhat outrageous aesthetic with very refined and very wearable garments. in my wildest dreams this is something primoeza might look like in the future.

i feel like things have been a bit quiet on my blog - i've been getting the last of my orders out and beginning work on new samples. i forget what a tortured soul i become when i start on new things. it always feels like a giant step into the unknown with the expectation that everything will be resolved by the big fat deadline looming ahead. obviously i still haven't learned to embrace the process. life has also been trying to distract me recently with blocked pipes in the bathroom, broken taps in the kitchen and someone breaking into my bank account...

anyway, i will leave you with some images from this issue of so- en, which makes you just want to jump up and design something and reminds me why i love what i do.

i borrowed a book that my aunt wrote about our family. the last image shows my grandmother (on the right). she and some of her sisters named themselves after their favourite movie stars; constance, janet and vivien. everybody called them by those names.
